Animals such as horses, who are trained to run for various track competitions, have a certain period of service. On the other hand, it shouldn’t be forgotten that, there are many who die on the tracks, while contesting in this sporting event. With that said, these contests are highly regarded in many societies around the world. There are many reputed running courses designed for these events. Given that, as much as some individuals enjoy this sport, there are others who gamble on winning positions. As a fact, these individuals mint a great deal of money at these competitions. However, is it ever occurred to you, about what happens to the animals after service?
As mentioned earlier, there’s a certain period before a horse could retire from taking part in these contests. What’s the fate of the lives of these former animals? If they are in good condition, they have more years ahead. While some get the chance of living in good facilities, it’s the mark of death for some. If you’re into this sporting activity, you might be inquisitive about their life after contesting. Here’s the fate of former horses that have raced tracks for years:
Rescue centres
There are many horse racing gambling contests, where individuals have lost on bets, due to sudden injury of the animal. Therefore, these animals that become ill are considered useless. Therefore, in such situations those who have the potential of living are sent to rescue centres. As a fact, after treatment and rehabilitation some of them are used for small scale and low-level equestrian activities.
Breeding
If there’s a winning horse, it has a future secured for quite a few years ahead. They don’t land in slaughterhouses or used for unethical activities. The victors (stud or filly) of the racetrack, reaching the retiring age, are selected for breeding in the future. Even then, some earn money for caring for the stud or filly, by the breeder.
Slaughterhouses
As much as horse racing gambling has become a popular trade, some former racers don’t meet a promising fate. Especially, those who are severely injured in young ages competing at racetracks are subjected to being killed. If the stud or filly cannot be cured, they would be sent to slaughterhouses.
While some find good shelters until their death, it’s sad knowing that the unwanted horses have to face an impending end. With that said, if you’re fond of having a horse or you have a farm, consider saving the lives of the animals. Saving one animal is worth than doing nothing at all.
